We islanders call our island rock. And the best way to explore the Virgin Islands is to hop from island to island (=rock) on our powerboat or a paddleboard. That’s why we called our St. John-based LLC Rockhoppin’ Adventures.
Charters and Paddleboards on St. John, USVI
Business No: 26737, License No 3-26737-1L
Captain Steve, originally from York, Pennsylvania, has served in the US Marine Corps and has been living on St. John since 2007. He is an experienced captain & diver and has the Master 50 Ton Captains license as well as all CPR and First Aid certifications and also received special marine water survival training in the Marine Corps. He knows the Virgin Island waters very well and can take you to the best spots. In his free time he often goes diving for lobster or fishing (and can also throw a line for you on the bay back from Jost van Dyke or Norman Island if you want) and he has started to make some awesome Sushi with the fish he catches. Check out the photos here.
He goes by many nicknames on the island, one of them being Sniper Steve another one Lobster Steve….guess why?
“Thank you captain Steve for such a wonderful trip to JVD. Such a professional group of people from arranging the trip til we got off the boat. We will definitely see you again. Thanks again.”
“We chartered Rockhoppin Adventures for an all day snorkel trip around St. John. Our Captain, Steve, discussed the trip, helped to plan the day and assured that every detail was to our liking. Every snorkel spot we visited was different and enjoyable. With Steve’s help and guidance we were able to fully appreciate each stop on the trip. The trip was an outstanding value and truly enjoyable. While on St. John my wife decided to try Stand Up Paddleboard. She started with a lesson from the very skilled and talented Lucy. The lesson was great and she had a wonderful experience for first time SUP. We would definitely recommend Rockhoppin Adventures for any of activity you’re considering on St. John.”

Here is what our customers have to say about her:
“This was my first attempt at paddleboarding. I was a little nervous because I am not a strong swimmer. Lucy is awesome. Her instruction was impeccable, thorough, and clear. She is also a lifeguard. Even though she weighs about 90 pounds soaking wet, I had no doubt she could rescue me if I fell in. When my friend fell in (who did not need Lucy’s help to get back up), the speed with which Lucy paddled over to her just blew me away. I strongly recommend a lesson with Lucy!”
“My husband and I scheduled a last minute paddleboard lesson with Lucy the day before we were leaving St John. She was quick to respond to our email and agreed to the lesson even though she already had a couple of other back to back lessons. I was so glad that I decided to take a lesson rather than struggling on my own with a rental from Cinnamon Bay like we had been planning. Lucy did a great job at explaining how to paddle so that you were not wore out completely after a short time. Even so, we were exhausted after two hours but by the end I had a good understanding of how to do it properly and I absolutely loved it. I can’t wait for the opportunity to try this again and only wish we had done it sooner in our trip so that we could practice some more!”
“We visited St. John over February vacation and my two teens wanted to take Paddleboarding Lessons. We found Lucy online and she gave us a choice of times to meet. It was worth every penny! Lucy spent a few minutes on shore with them helping them learn the basics. After an hour lesson in the water, both of them came back all excited and full of confidence. They spent another hour out with her and learned some other strokes. They both loved it! An added benefit was getting home and receiving pictures via email from Lucy! They will certainly be part of next year’s Christmas card!”
